Cytostatic and cytotoxic effects of activated macrophages and nitric oxide donors on Brugia malayi.
The susceptibility of Brugia malayi microfilariae and adults to injury by the murine macrophage cell line J774 activated with gamma interferon and bacterial lipopolysaccharide has been examined in vitro. Parasites of both stages showed a decline in viability over 48 h of coculture with activated macrophages, assessed by their capacity to reduce the tetrazolium salt 3-[4,5-diethylthiazol-2-yl]-2...
متن کاملA cytotoxic and cytostatic gold(III) corrole.
We have synthesized and characterized a water-soluble gold(III) corrole (1-Au) that is highly toxic to cisplatin-resistant cancer cells. Relative to its 1-Ga analogue, axial ligands bind only weakly to 1-Au, which likely accounts for its lower affinity for human serum albumin (HSA). We suggest that the cytotoxicity of 1-Au may be related to this lower HSA affinity.
متن کاملStudies, with a luminogenic peptide substrate, on blood coagulation factor X/Xa produced by mouse peritoneal macrophages.
The formation and secretion of coagulation Factor X/Xa by mouse peritoneal macrophages was studied with a luminogenic peptide substrate (S-2613; t-butyloxycarbonylisoleucylglutamyl-gamma-piperidylglycylarginylisoluminol). Amidolysis was quantified by measuring the light emitted during oxidation of isoluminol, released by Factor Xa. A lower detection limit of about 0.5ng of Factor Xa was establi...
متن کاملCytostatic and cytotoxic effects of tyrphostin AG1296 on RMS cells
AIM OF THE STUDY The aim of the work was to determine the influence of tyrphostin AG1296, an inhibitor of platelet-derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR) tyrosine kinase, on autocrine growth of rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS RMS cells were cultured in serum-free DMEM/F12 medium. Modified crystal violet (CV) and MTT methods were used to determine the RMS cells' proliferati...
متن کاملPurification and physicochemical characterization of a human cytotoxic factor produced by a human haemic cell line.
A cytotoxic factor, produced by a human lymphoblastoid cell line [Karpas (1977) Br. J. Cancer 35, 152--160; Karpas (1977) Br. J. Cancer 36, 437--445], was purified both from the cell extracts and from the culture medium containing the cell lysate, by using ammonium sulphate precipitation, DEAE-cellulose chromatography, gel filtration and affinity chromatography on concanavalin A--Sepharose and ...
